Evidence for New Unidentified TeV γ-ray Sources from Angularly-Correlated Hot-Spots Observed by Independent TeV γ-ray Sky Surveys
نویسنده
چکیده
We have examined the directional cross-correlation of statistical ‘hot-spots’ between a Northern Sky TeV Gamma Ray Survey by the Milagro Observatory and a similar survey by the Tibet Array. We find the directions of these hot-spots are angularly uncorrelated between the two surveys for large angular separations (∆θ > 4), but there appears to be a statistically significant correlation between hot-spot directions for ∆θ < 1.5. Independent simulations indicate the chance probability for the occurrence of this correlation is approximately 10, implying the existence of one or more previously unobserved TeV γ-ray sources in these directions. The data sets are consistent with both point-like sources or diffuse sources with extent of 1 − 2. Subject headings: gamma rays: observations – methods: statistical

Ground-Based Gamma-Ray Detection of High Energy Galactic Sources: An Update
I review the present status of ground-based γ-ray astronomy, concentrating on the population of galactic TeV sources. A number of new telescope systems are now being completed, and promise to yield exciting new discoveries, expanding rapidly the number of sources. The TeV galactic sources today include a number of plerions, shell-type SNR, an Xray binary, and also one unidentified candidate. Th...
متن کاملObservations of Pulsar Wind Nebulae with the VERITAS Array of Imaging Atmo- spheric Cherenkov Telescopes
Many of the recently discovered galactic very high-energy (VHE) γ-ray sources are associated with Pulsar Wind Nebulae, which is the most populous Galactic source category at TeV energies. The extended synchrotron nebulae of these objects observed in the X-ray band are a hallmark of the relativistic winds, generated by the young, energetic neutron stars, that interact with the matter ejected by ...
متن کاملSearch for Pulsar Wind Nebula Associations of Unidentified TeV γ−Ray Sources
Many of the recently discovered galactic very high-energy γ−ray sources are associated with pulsar wind nebulae, which represent the most populous galactic source class at TeV energies. In addition, H.E.S.S. detector discovered in the galactic plane survey a representative population of unidentified TeV γ−ray sources. For a number of these sources a pulsar is an evident association, which is of...
متن کاملAn Updated Search of Steady TeV γ−Ray Point Sources in Northern Hemisphere Using the Tibet Air Shower Array
Using the data taken from Tibet II High Density (HD) Array (1997 February1999 September) and Tibet-III array (1999 November-2005 November), our previous northern sky survey for TeV γ−ray point sources has now been updated by a factor of 2.8 improved statistics. From 0.0 to 60.0 in declination (Dec) range, no new TeV γ−ray point sources with sufficiently high significance were identified while t...
متن کاملTHE POPULATION OF RADIO SOURCES IN THE FIELD OF THE UNIDENTIFIED γ-RAY SOURCE TeV J2032+4130
TeV J2032+4130 is the first extended very high energy gamma-ray source, which has remained enigmatic since its discovery, due to the lack of identification. We report here deep radio observations covering the TeV J2032+4130 field and revealing for the first time an extended and diffuse radio emission, as well as a remarkable population of compact radio sources. Some of these radio sources are i...
